The Lie Of “Not Enough” For Your Business
The problem is that many people think THEY can’t start a business and live the life they want.
People think they don’t deserve to succeed, or they don’t know what to do to get started, or they compare themselves to people who are already doing something similar.
This lie runs in our head: “you are not ______ enough.”
It’s a treacherous lie, rooted in insecurity, comparison, scarcity, and fear.
And then this lie repeats itself so frequently that we can start to believe it.
Here’s the crazy thing. When we believe the lie of “you are not ______ enough”, we choose to stop moving forward. Finally we give up, turning what was once a lie into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Fear’s Dirty Little Secret
This feeling of not enough is based on a foundation of fear and lack.
Fear of failure. Fear of rejection. Fear of the unknown. Fear of success. Fear of what people will think. Fear of being an imposter.
All of these fears seem legit at first. However, they’re just lies.
Getting trapped by the lie “you are not enough” is a surefire way to get stuck where we are. Even worse, you’ll have a nagging regret for the rest of your life because you tried to kill the one thing that makes you uniquely human- your dreams.
Now in most cases with starting a business, the worst that might happen to you is you lose some time and money. However, that nagging fear of regret won’t be around anymore.

So how do we recognize the lies of fear and doubt, and move forward to build a business we love? Let’s take a look.
How To Move Your Mindset Forward To Build A Business You Love
Before we can believe that we are enough to accomplish anything in our hearts, we first need a new starting point.
We must shift our foundation from Fear to Love. Only when we approach life, people, and our dreams with Love can we break free of the “not enough” trap and take steps forward.
We must turn Fear & Lack into Love & Creation.
Moving From Fear & Lack To Love & Creation
This transformation can be one of the most valuable changes in your life, but it won’t happen overnight. Your decision to shift your mindset can take place in an instant, but it’s a continual process to build this change into your lifestyle.
Let’s look at five ways you can move from fear & lack to love & creation. Once you believe that you are enough you will feel confident in building a business you love.
1. Connect Instead of Compare
So much of our “not enough-ness” comes from comparing ourselves to others.
We might compare ourselves to people who are 10 years ahead of us. We also have a tendency to compare the best version of others to the worst version of ourselves.

Instead of comparing ourselves with others, we need to connect ourselves with God. Remember who He made you to be and who He says you are, His child.
Also connect with other people through healthy conversations. Be interested in their lives and how you might be able to help them. Building real relationships with others gets our minds off ourselves.
When we stop comparing we can start connecting.
2. Talk To Your Inner Critic
No one talks to you more than you do. This makes negative self-talk one of the most destructive habits a person can have.
“You’re not smart enough.”
“You’re not simple enough.”
“You’re not old enough.”
“You’re not young enough.”
“You’re not experienced enough.”
“You’re not fresh enough.”
“You’re not rich enough.”
“You’re not hungry enough.”
…and the list goes on and on.
Stop giving airtime to your inner critic. It’s hijacked the conversation in your head and holding you back.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”Philippians 4:8
Repeat God’s truth and positive affirmations over yourself daily to remind your inner critic who is in control. Refuse and reframe the lies that your inner critic tries to shout at you.
3. Focus On Your Contribution
What you focus on grows. It can be all too easy to get caught up in what we lack or aren’t able to do right now.
When you continually focus on what’s missing you’re training your brain to identify and remember even more of what you’re missing, whether it matters or not.
Focus on what you do have.
Focus on what you can do.
Focus on what is possible.
Focus on what you can contribute.
Continually focusing on what’s possible and on what you can create trains your brain to start imagining new possibilities and new solutions and new ideas for moving forward.
Create a habit of gratitude and contribution and you’re actually creating a habit of creating more good.
4. Imagine The Future You Want For Your Business
It can be easy to get cynical and discouraged about our direction.
Take a breath, be present, and give yourself space to imagine the future you truly want. If anything was possible 12 months from now, what would you want it to look like?
A great starting prompt to help with this is, “I want to live in a world where…” and then finish that statement with as much detail as possible.
Create a visual image in your mind of what that future looks like. The more visual and more detailed you can imagine the future you want, the more inspired and likely you will be to make that future a reality.
5. Love & Accept Yourself
Finally, love and accept yourself throughout the entire process. Your life, your business, your growth is a journey.
The faster something grows the faster it can die. Give yourself the gift of slow, intentional, deep growth that will not quickly fade.
Accept your flaws, no matter how big or small they may seem.
Remember, your Creator loves you not for the tasks you complete, but simply because you exist. You are already infinitely loved no matter what. Stop trying to cheapen it with your own limited strength.
Accept your strengths. Accept your weaknesses. Accept your responsibilities. Accept what you’re not in control of. Accept anything that is “you”, and love it completely.
Love yourself enough to admit what needs to change. Love yourself enough to give yourself patience and grace for the journey.
The beautiful thing is that once you decide to fully love and accept yourself, then it becomes much easier for you to love and accept others.
Give yourself the love and acceptance to try something new, whether it works out or not. I guarantee that if you build a business that is helping people who are willing to pay for it, you will find yourself doing work you love and making a difference in the world.
